Review of Ozymandias: Bronze Empire Sim

This is a minimalistic turn-based global 4-x strategy from The Secret Games Company, which has attracted a large audience of players since its inception.

In the game, the user gets access to several ready-made cards. The good thing is that there are no randomness in the game, but there are no manual settings either. As for the cards, they can be both quite small in size and large.

Although there are other cards inside, but in fact, real states do not give any bonus. Here, all bonuses depend on the class, for example, it is cheaper for scientists to study technologies, and it is more difficult to create units or capture lands. Merchants have no problem with the technology of wealth, but there are problems with power.

Inside the game, there are no a number of important parameters inherent in other strategies, including the contentment of the population or the extraction of rare resources. Here is the base set. The character has 4 resources:

1. Wealth.
2. Knowledge.
3. Strength.
4. Food.

And each resource has its own purpose.

It is worth noting that diplomacy, and not just war, plays a role during the passage. That is, you can agree on a truce with the enemy, make an alliance and trade. But you can’t get away from the war – this is one of the elements of the gameplay. It doesn’t matter if the player builds defensive structures and tries to avoid hostilities, you still need to be ready for an attack. Since some players act more aggressively and capture new territories by military means. So you need to think not only about defense, but also about attack. Of course, the more territory, the more is needed in order to protect it.

Strength starts from 1 unit and cannot be less. But military cards, as well as the budget, help to increase it. Of course, hiring troops will require money, and each subsequent unit will cost more than the previous one. In order for the army to move, food is needed, and the amount of it can be different.

Victory in the game can be achieved in different ways. For example, you can earn the required number of crowns, which are given for the construction of a miracle. Even at the beginning of the game, all miracles are determined, and it will be randomly determined how much crowns it will give and what needs to be achieved in the end. Well, you can win if you destroy every enemy.

So Ozymandias: Bronze Empire Sim is quite an interesting project that really deserves attention. This is a worthy alternative to the notorious Civilization with high-quality game mechanics and moderately difficult passage.
